Workshop At Darnall Works Approximately 40 Metres To South East Of Number 20 (Number 20 Not Included)

The workshop at Darnall Works, located approximately 40 meters southeast of Number 20, is a steel working shop that has been repurposed for annealing and cleaning. Built in 1913 for the Kayser Ellison firm, it features a steel framed structure with glass and brick infill panels, and concrete dressings, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The building has a concrete plinth, sills, floor bands, a cornice, and pedimented gables on the northwest side. It is three stories high and consists of 17 by 4 bays. The first floor is fully glazed, and there is a gallery around the lower second floor, both with multi-pane glazing. On the southwest side, there is a four-bay bridge at the second floor level connecting to an adjoining building. The northwest gable has a pedimented design with a round window and large sliding doors on the ground floor. The southeast gable features similar doors and has its peak clad in corrugated iron. The interior has not been inspected. This workshop is part of the sole surviving large crucible steel works in Sheffield and is an early example of a steel framed industrial building.
