Description
This is a milepost located approximately 200 metres south-east of the junction with Lodge Lane in Aston-cum-Aughton. It dates from the late 19th century and was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and is mounted on a gritstone pillar. It features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel reads "ROTHERHAM & PLEASLEY / ROAD / ASTON / CUM / AUGHTON." The left side displays "MANSFIELD / 17 1/4 MILES / PLEASLEY / - MILES" (with part of it buried), while the right side shows "ROTHERHAM / 6 MILES."
