Description
The Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge located on the south side of Worksop Road in Aston, built for the Aston Hall estate. It features ashlar sandstone construction and a graduated slate roof. The building has an octagonal center with a front porch and lower side wings, all single storey and consisting of three bays. The porch includes a round-headed opening with an architrave, flanked by pilasters with voluted capitals, and a geometrically-incised frieze beneath a stepped blocking course. The angled side walls have plinths and blocks for sill bands, with small 20th-century casements that have sunken-panelled jambs and rackets supporting stylised entablatures. Above these is a band with sunken panels and a cornice leading to a hipped roof with a renewed central stack. Each side wing has a 16-pane sash window set in a recess between ashlar strips, topped with a cornice. The returns of the side wings mirror the front, featuring pedimented end gables. This building served as the former lodge to Aston Hall, which is now known as Aughton Court.
