Description

Nos 22 and 24 on Worksop Road are two houses built around 1800, forming part of an altered symmetrical row. They are constructed from deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone and feature roofs of Welsh slate and 20th-century tiles. The houses have a layout of three bays, two bays, three bays, and two bays, with the two-bay sections being two stories tall and projecting to the rear, while the other bays are one story. The original three-bay section, which completed the symmetry on the right, has been significantly altered and is not of special interest.

The two-bay sections project forward and have wallstone plinths, floor bands, and eaves bands. Each floor features 20th-century casements beneath flat arches. No 24, located on the left, has a door that was inserted to the right of an enlarged window, which has a 20th-century bowed casement. The floor band continues as an eaves band on the one-story parts, which include a central range with three doorways. The left wing has a blocked door flanked by casements and leads to a later lean-to structure. The roofs are hipped, with brick stacks on the outer return of each two-story section. The design is reminiscent of estate housing by John Carr, who is known to have worked at Aston Hall and High Trees.
