Description
Hoober Stand Cottage is a lodge that likely dates from the late 18th century, with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of ashlar and coursed, squared sandstone, topped with Welsh and stone slate roofs. The building is octagonal in shape and features an attached L-shaped wing, all on a single storey.
The octagonal section has a plinth and a door on the south side, which is adorned with decorative iron hinges and a three-pane overlight set beneath a flat arch. A cornice serves as a gutter, and there is lead flashing along with a brick stack positioned to the right above the eaves. The rear of the octagonal part has sash windows with glazing bars on each elevation, and the right return has a blind recess.
The wing has an entrance in the projecting section to the left of the octagonal part, featuring a door within a wooden porch, flanked by small sash windows with glazing bars beneath wedge lintels. This section has a hipped roof. An additional wing set back to the left includes a wooden porch, a blind window recess to its left, and a 16-pane sash window to the right. The left gable has copings, and there are corniced stacks at both the end and ridge. The cottage is included for its group value.
