Description
The Glass House and Green House is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a sandstone rubble gable facing the road and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features a two-window main range with an additional two-window section to the left that is set back, along with rear wings on both parts.
The entrance includes a part-glazed door situated within a decorative, trellised wood porch. On either side of the door are tripartite sash windows that have projecting stone sills, wood mullions, and flat brick arches. The first-floor windows mirror the design of those below, each featuring a 16-pane central sash flanked by 4-pane outer lights.
Above the porch, there is a large sundial supported by a scrolled iron gnomon and cornice, inscribed with the phrases 'Vive memor quam fis aevi brevit' and 'Delineavit Johan Metcalfe 1766'. The building is topped with an ashlar-coped parapet and gables, and it has end stacks. The block to the left contains 16-pane sash windows with projecting sills and stone lintels. There is also an arched head of a blocked doorway to the right of the windows, with an end stack to the left and a shared stack to the right.
