Description
Needle's Eye is a folly built in the mid to late 18th century, attributed to the architect John Carr, although it is also depicted in an engraving from around 1730. This structure was created for the Wentworth estate and is made of ashlar sandstone. It features a tall, square pyramid shape with a narrow, ogee carriage arch on the axis of a former avenue leading to Wentworth Park North Lodge. The design includes a plinth, an impost band, and moulded voussoirs, some of which have been partly renewed. At the top of the pyramid, there is a square plinth that supports an elaborate vase entwined with foliage.
