Description

No. 146 and the barn adjoining on the north side is a building that has been partly converted into a house. It likely dates from the early 16th century and has been encased and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure features timber framing and sandstone rubble walls, with stone slate eaves courses leading to a Welsh slate roof, while the barn is covered by sheet asbestos.

The two-storey house occupies the right bay of a three-bay structure. Its front wall is pebble-dashed, and it has a part-glazed door within a 20th-century glazed porch to the left of a two-light casement window with glazing bars. There is a similar window on the first floor and a small casement above the porch. To the left, the barn has two slit vents in the left bay, full-height boarding in the central bay, and a casement window above double doors. The barn features a hipped roof with gablets and a renewed brick end stack to the right above the eaves.

At the rear, wall posts are set on padstones, which are exposed at the right end and flanking the central bay, the latter of which includes pigeon holes and a high rail beneath the wall plate. Inside, the barn, now used as a garage, has exposed framing and a roof with long curved braces to the tie beams and raking struts clasping single purlins. The roof has a collared-rafters design with original pegged collars. The altered interior of the house may conceal notable features.
