Description

This is a barn built around 1800, located approximately 15 metres north of Bilham House Farmhouse in Hooton Pagnell. The structure is made of thinly-coursed limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof, though part of it has been replaced by corrugated iron sheets. The barn has an L-shaped plan with a wing at the rear right and a central projection at the front. This projection features a door and a casement window set within an infilled waggon entrance, which has a round arch with an impost band and keystone. Below the round-arched recess is infilled with later brickwork and a casement, while flanking rectangular recesses have projecting sills. There is a shaped panel on the gable that is said to have been inscribed "Rebuilt/ W. H. Howell/1799". The barn also has weathered kneelers and gable copings. A round-arched recess is located beneath collapsed external steps leading to a door on the left side of the projection. There are later external steps on the left that lead to a door with a wooden lintel. A corrugated-iron lean-to and attached buildings are present at the front right but are not of special interest. The main range has a hipped roof.

Inside, matching round arches pierce the front and back walls of the main range. The barn features pattern-book king-post trusses with heavy-scantling tie beams. There are 20th-century buildings that abut the rear of the range.
