Description
This is a barn located about 25 meters north of Howley Farmhouse, dating from the 16th to 17th century, with a linhay addition from the 18th to 19th century and some minor alterations made later. It is constructed of random rubble with boarded infill in the half-hipped gable ends. The roof, which was originally thatched, now has corrugated iron sheeting and continues as a catslide over an outshot. The site slopes down to the west and features a three-bay structure with half bays at either end and a cellar at the eastern end. The east end has a wide depressed Tudor arch-head doorframe in the outshot, while the north front has a peaked head doorframe. Inside, there are three pairs of jointed cruck trusses, with a collar beam truss replacement at the west end, two pairs of purlins, and a wallplate. There is also a plank and muntin screen with a cambered head opening at the west end and remains of a threshing floor. Some of the timberwork may have originated from Howley Farmhouse, making this barn notable for its unusual features.
