Description

This is a memorial cross with a stepped base, located at the junction with Hickleton Road, built in 1910 in memory of Charles Lindley Wood, Viscount Halifax. The cross features earlier steps that may date back to medieval times. It is constructed from limestone and has an octagonal base with five steps leading up to a two-stage plinth. The plinth is inscribed with the following text:

"To Edward VII King of England in memory of the past / Grant him O Lord eternal rest and let light perpetual shine upon him / Erected by Charles Lindley: Viscount Halifax: his subject and servant / May 6th 1910."

The octagonal shaft of the cross has a crocketed capital and a stylized cross, with a shield on one face and a figure of Christ on the other.
