Description
East Lodge and Entrance Gateway is a lodge and entrance gateway built around 1910 for the Hickleton Hall estate. It is constructed from rock-faced and ashlar limestone with a Welsh slate roof. The square lodge features an entrance archway set back to the right and is designed in the style of Sir Edwin Lutyens.
The lodge is a single-storey building with an attic, comprising two by one bays. It has a chamfered ashlar plinth band and alternately projecting quoins. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set in quoined surrounds that have soffit-moulded sills and tripartite keystones. A deep eaves cornice runs along the roof, which is hipped and includes two roof dormers. The ridge stack is quoined and corniced. The right side of the lodge has a three-light window with eight-pane sashes and a canted roof dormer.
The entrance archway features rock-faced quoins and an impost band supporting a round arch, which has a tripartite keystone with a console-shaped central stone. A string course rises over the arch as a hood, and there is an open pediment with ledges for pigeon holes in the tympanum. The rear of the structure is designed in the same style as the front.
