Description

Field Head Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been divided into separate units. The original timber framing likely dates back to the 16th century but was encased in stone during the 17th century. The building has been heavily remodeled and extensively rebuilt around 1985. It features coursed rubble with quoins and has a tiled roof. The structure is two storeys high with a complex plan that includes two gables on the west side, a projecting wing on the east side, and a lower range to the north, all of which are gabled. There is a 20th-century addition in the southeast angle and a 19th-century addition in the northwest angle, neither of which is of special interest. Most openings have been renewed, but two windows survive on the north side of the east wing at ground-floor level; one is a single-light window and the other has three lights, both of which are double-chamfered. The east wing also features chamfered gable copings on moulded kneelers with ball finials.

Inside, the timber framing shows at least three phases of construction, including posts, king-post roof trusses, and some studding, which includes chevron studding.
