Description

The former aqueduct over Silkstone Beck, located at the northeast end of the former Barnby Basin approximately 150 metres north of Barnby Bridge, dates from around 1802, coinciding with the construction of the canal. It is built of ashlar stone and features fronts with splayed sloping sides, copings, and a decorative band. Silkstone Beck flows through a round tunnel that is approximately 3 metres in diameter, tapering to about 1 metre in the center and measuring around 10 metres in length. The canal originally flowed over the top of the aqueduct but was infilled in the 1970s.
