Description

This milepost, located approximately 100 metres west of the junction with Engine Lane in Shafton, dates from the mid to late 19th century. It features a cast-iron front mounted on a stone post. The milepost has a triangular shape with a rounded top, and it displays raised letters that read: "BARNSLEY & PONTEFRACT ROAD SHAFTON BARNSLEY PONTEFRACT 5 9 MILES MILES."
