Description

The freestanding chimney at Bleachcroft Farm is a works chimney dated 1854, originally built for the Midland Bleach Works. It is constructed from dressed and ashlar sandstone. The chimney features a square pedestal with a moulded plinth and cornice, topped by a tall octagonal chimney that includes a datestone on the west side and an entablature. This chimney is the most notable remnant of the bleach works established by Barnsley manufacturer Henry Jackson. Information is provided by the Sheffield Trades Historical Society.
