3/59 Gardener's cottage including attached garden walls and ha-ha at south end, at Cannon Hall Nurseries

II

Gardener's cottage, attached garden walls and ha-ha wall. Probably early C19 with C20 restoration to walls. Red brick in English garden wall bond with ashlar dressings, stone slate roof, rubble ha-ha. Two storeys. The house is of 2 bays with its one-bay gable end built at 45° into the north-west angle of the garden wall. The stone coped garden walls sweep up to the band forming the base of the pediment gable which is flanked by brick stacks. Tripartite window with centre light now forming door. 2-light first floor window set in segmental-arched panel. Casement windows of right return have slightly cambered heads. The north wall, right end, has remains of fireplaces and flues to form a hot wall. The entranceway at the north side has been widened or rebuilt. The stone ha-ha forms the south wall of the garden. The cottage and walls are marked on the 1854 Ordnance Survey map.
