Description

Gardener's cottage, attached garden walls, and ha-ha wall, probably from the early 19th century with 20th-century restoration to the walls. The structure is made of red brick in English garden wall bond with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof and a rubble ha-ha. It has two storeys and consists of two bays, with a one-bay gable end built at a 45-degree angle into the north-west corner of the garden wall. The garden walls rise to a band that forms the base of the pediment gable, which is flanked by brick stacks. There is a tripartite window with the center light now serving as a door, and a two-light first-floor window set in a segmental-arched panel. The casement windows on the right return have slightly cambered heads. The north wall, on the right end, shows remains of fireplaces and flues that indicate it was designed to form a hot wall. The entranceway on the north side has been widened or rebuilt. The stone ha-ha serves as the south wall of the garden. The cottage and walls are depicted on the 1854 Ordnance Survey map.
