Description
This warehouse building, located at the east end of George Yard in Barnsley, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, although the first bay is of a different construction. It was altered in 1873 and features tooled stone with a 20th-century asbestos roof. The building has three storeys and seven bays.
The main entrance, located in bay 5, along with the entrance in bay 2 and the ground-floor windows in bays 4 and 6, were all added in 1873 and are made of more finely-dressed stone. The main entrance is round-arched and has a pointed hoodmould, decorated with a beehive motif supported by foliage. The hoodmould stops feature the initials "C" and "R". The jambs of the entrance are panelled with foliated capitals. The ground-floor windows in bays 4 and 6 also have similar jambs and deep moulded cornices, with the window in bay 6 featuring two lights with shouldered heads, dated 1873.
There is a large 20th-century entrance to the left of the building. Bay 3 includes a loading door to the first floor. The first and second floors have assorted casements and sashes with glazing bars and plain surrounds. The right corner of the building is rounded, and there is a later addition at the rear with a flat roof.
