HIGH HOYLANDS PARK ROAD (south side, off) West Bretton Rock Well approximately 50 metres west of Dam Head Cottages in Bretton Park

Well. Dated 1685, for the right Honourable Grace Countess of Eglintown widow of Sir Thomas Wentworth; possibly remodelled in the C18. Ashlar, built into the rock face. Slightly convex on plan. Symmetrically arranged. Central door with deep lintel flanked by paired, engaged columns with fluted capitals. Supporting a simple entablature, which has vase - or pedestal-like fragments, a sculpted limestone owl and a central square tablet inscribed with date and details. In front of the well stone steps lead down on 3 sides.
