Description
This is a terrace of seven houses, numbered 15 to 27 George Street, built around 1845. The front of the houses is constructed of orange-cream brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the rear uses an English garden wall bond. The doorcases, guttering and eaves frieze are timber. The roofs are slate, with brick stacks.
The terrace has a two-storey, seven-window facade. The doorcases are pilastered, with moulded cornices featuring modillions. Each door is panelled, with four sunk panels and a divided overlight, set within a stone doorstep. All windows are twelve-pane sashes, with painted stone sills and flat arches of gauged brick. The eaves have guttering supported by timber modillions, with tapered and faceted rainwater heads for each pair of houses. Each house has a stone bootscraper block to the left of the door. A reset parish boundary stone, bearing the words "ST MARGARET'S PARISH" is positioned above the door of number 27.
The rear of the terrace features one-storey wings projecting at right angles. Rear windows of the main range are twelve-pane sashes; some houses have flat-topped dormers with two-light windows, whilst others have skylights. The interiors have not been inspected.
