Formerly known as: Nos.51 AND 52 STONEGATE. House, now shop. Early C17, raised, extended and altered later: C19 shopfront. Timber-framed, plastered at front, with timber cornice and shopfront; rear of orange-beige brick in stretcher bond; pantile roof with brick stack. EXTERIOR: 3-storey, 1-bay front, first floor jettied. Shopfront beneath cased jetty bressumer has 2-light window over panelled riser, glazed shop door with overlight to right and passageway entrance further right. First and second floor windows are 12-pane sashes with timber sills. Dentilled and modillioned eaves cornice. Rear: 3 storeys, 1 bay. Timber lintel to passageway. First floor window is 12-pane casement with 1-course segmental brick arch: on second floor, C20 tripartite window with small pane glazing. Vestiges of timber-framing are visible in passageway and in rear wall. INTERIOR: RCHM records early C19 stick baluster staircase. (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 222).
