Description
Number 5 is a house and shop located on Stonegate, built in the mid-19th century with later 19th-century windows and a 20th-century shopfront. The front is made of stucco and has a slate roof with a rendered chimney stack.
The exterior features three storeys and a three-bay front. The upper storeys are highlighted by full-height pilaster strips with moulded imposts that support a moulded eaves cornice. The shopfront includes a passage entry on the left, glazed doors in the centre and at the corner, and plate glass windows, all beneath a plain cornice.
On the first floor, there is a 12-pane sash window with a stuccoed sill beneath a pent hood supported by moulded brackets. This window is flanked by three-light square bay windows with casements and coloured glass transom lights. The second floor has shorter 12-pane sash windows with stuccoed sills that extend on each side to create a flat band.
The interior has not been inspected.
