Description

This is a brick house, built around 1860 to 1870, and now used as a doctor's surgery. It has three storeys above cellars and a concrete tile roof. The front facade, facing The Mount, has three bays with mostly sash windows. The ground and second floor windows have horizontal bands across their sills. A stone balcony with cast-iron railings is positioned at first floor level. The outer bays feature two-storey canted bay windows on the left and a one-storey canted bay window on the right, each with cornices. The second and third windows on the first floor are cross casement windows that open onto the balcony and are set within segmental brick arches. The left-hand window on the second floor is divided into three parts and slightly projects, also under a cornice. The central doorway has a painted surround with pilasters that have sunken panels, and a semicircular head with an overlight window above. The door itself has four panels. The overhanging eaves are coved and have exposed rafters. The return facade, facing Dalton Terrace, has six bays, with a two-storey porch projection in the fourth bay. The two right-hand bays have sash windows with segmental brick arches on the ground floor and cross casement windows on the first floor, which open onto a continuous balcony with cast-iron railings, matching the front facade. The three left-hand bays have sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arches on the ground and first floors. Second floor windows have a sill band, and are glazing bar sashes with the exception of the fifth, which is a sash, and the sixth, which is a blind recess. External louvred shutters in wooden frames cover the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth bays. The porch features four stone Tuscan pilasters and a painted entablature. The outer door has four panels and an overlight window. The first floor of the porch is timber-framed and glazed with three sash windows divided by pilasters and a cornice with dentils. Two chimneys are visible on the front elevation and two on the side elevation. The interior has not been inspected.
