Description

The Mount School is a 19th-century block built around 1850, designed as a school. It features a stucco exterior and a hipped slate roof. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a total of seven bays. The ground floor and basement exhibit channelled rustication, and the windows are adorned with sill bands. The cellar windows have segmental heads and grilles with diagonal ironwork, while the upper storey windows are glazing bar sashes. The first-floor windows are framed with architraves that include cornices and pulvinated friezes, and the second-floor windows are recessed with segmental heads.

Notably, the ground-floor window to the right of the central porch is tripartite and slightly projects on corbels. The porch itself features panelled pilasters, a cornice, and a round-arched outer doorway. Inside the porch, the recessed inner doorway has a six-panel door and a semicircular overlight with vertical glazing bars. The eaves overhang on deep brackets, and there are chimneys positioned to the right and at the front ridge on either side of the central bay. At the rear, there is a one-storey extension at the centre of the ground floor, and the outer bays have two-storey canted bays with unequal 15-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes on the first floor. Other windows throughout the building are 12-pane sashes with cambered heads, segmental arches, and sill bands. The interior has not been inspected.
