Description

Two houses, now part of a hotel, were built in the 1830s and altered in the 20th century. They are constructed of white brick with painted stone dressings, exposed limestone, and have slate roofs. The architectural style is Tudor Revival.

The exterior is two storeys plus an attic and basement. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with painted surrounds. Number 119, on the right, is symmetrical and features three bays. Octagonal limestone piers rise as turrets, displaying worn carved panels and crockets. The outer bays have canted bay windows on the ground floor, above mullioned canted cellar windows. The first floor has cross windows in the outer bays, and an oriel with an embattled parapet in the central bay. The attic has two flat-roofed dormers. The central Tudor-arched doorway is now glazed, and the original external steps have been removed. A moulded string course runs at sill level, rising as hood moulds above the windows, and another runs below the parapet, forming a gable over the central bay. Corbelled turrets with limestone caps are positioned to the left and right. The gables are coped and have chimneys with octagonal shafts; the right-hand chimneys still have their pots. A link connects to number 117, featuring a slated roof above a 20th-century entrance, doorway, steps, and an enlarged painted surround.

Number 117 is of two gabled bays, with the left-hand one projecting slightly. It has a canted mullioned and transomed bay window on the ground floor, above a mullioned canted cellar window. The right-hand bay has a window of three lights with a transom on the ground floor. Both have cross windows on the first floor, and narrow, chamfered attic windows in the gables.

The interiors were not inspected.
