SE5951SW THE MOUNT 1112-1/19/1085 (South East side) Gate piers, walls and railings to north-west of Nos.117 and 119

GV II

Two pairs of gate piers and two end piers, with connecting walls and railings. c1835. Ashlar and iron. The gate piers are octagonal on plan, stop-chamfered to a square at the base. The caps have 2 stages, the upper moulded below a pyramidal top, and the lower projecting as a deeply-undercut string course with a sloping upper surface. Between the gateways and extending to each side there are low stone walls with iron railings which have spear head finials. The north-eastern gateway is now infilled with a similar wall and railings. The walls terminate against plain octagonal ashlar piers with rounded tops. Included for group value as an integral part of No 117 and 119 (qv).
