Description

The walls, railings, and gate piers enclosing the courtyard to the west of Mill Mount House date from the early 20th century, with some elements from the mid-19th century. The walls and piers are made of red brick, featuring dressings of artificial stone and stone. The railings are crafted from cast and wrought iron. At the west and north corners, there are pairs of square entrance piers topped with cornice caps of artificial stone. These piers are connected by railings along the pavement to The Mount, which are set into artificial stone copings on a low brick base. The railings have cast finials and include narrow panels formed by three uprights flanked by standards, supported by stanchions and adorned with scrollwork tops. The central railings are taller and feature scrollwork cresting for emphasis. From the west corner, a taller brick wall with low railings extends approximately 40 meters along Albemarle Road. From the north corner, a brick wall, primarily from the 19th century and topped with stone copings, runs along Mill Mount and connects to Mill Mount House by railings. This structure is included for its group value as an integral part of Mill Mount House.
