Description
This is a cart-shed and granary built in the early 19th century, which incorporates re-used medieval masonry and has undergone later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was constructed for the Yarborough Estate. The building features a yellow brick front, with limestone rubble and ashlar on the sides and rear, and red-brick gables topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. It has a rectangular plan and the east front is two storeys high with five bays. There are five elliptically-arched cart entrances with an ashlar impost band, above which is boarded up to the impost level with hinges for former doors; the rightmost arch has been blocked in the 20th century. On the first floor, there is a casement window to the left with a sill and timber lintel at eaves level, and three similar openings to the right that were boarded up at the time of the survey. The eaves cornice features a three-course stepped and cogged brick design. The left side has wooden steps leading to a first-floor boarded door, which has a four-pane overlight beneath a segmental arch. The right side has a first-floor casement window. The rear includes three first-floor three-pane casements, one boarded opening, and a brick eaves cornice similar to the front. This building is included for its group value.
