Description
Yarborough Place is a house built in the mid-19th century for the Yarborough Estate, with later alterations and renovations, including interior changes around 1980. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a Welsh slate roof. It features a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and two rooms. The house is two stories tall with three symmetrical bays.
A flight of five stone steps leads up to a round-headed entrance, which has a painted rubbed-brick arch containing a recessed panelled door. This door is flanked by fluted Greek Doric columns that support an entablature with guttae and a modillioned cornice, beneath a recessed fanlight with margin bars. The windows are two-light casements with stone sills, set beneath painted rubbed-brick cambered arches. The ground-floor window openings were shortened in the late 19th to early 20th century. The eaves board is plain, and the hipped roof has a pair of axial stacks.
Inside, there is an open-well staircase featuring a ramped and wreathed handrail, cut string, plain ribbed balusters, and a clustered newel. The front door has a ribbed architrave, and the ground-floor front rooms have boldly moulded cornices. Throughout the house, there are panelled doors set in architraves.
