Description
SE 92 SW WINTERINGHAM ERMINE STREET (west side) 2/29 Winteringham Grange Farmhouse (formerly listed as Winteringham Grange) 6.11.67 GV II
Farmhouse. Late C18 - early C19, for Carrington Estate. Squared limestone with brick dressings; colourwashed, with traces of incised pointing in imitation of ashlar. Brick stacks. Pantile roof. Central entrance hall plan, 2 rooms wide by 2 rooms deep. 2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. 3 stone steps to 2-leaf 6 beaded-panel door beneath moulded cornice and radial fanlight in arched panelled reveal; C20 casements in original openings with projecting cills and stucco flat arches. Stepped and dentilled brick eaves cornice. Hipped roof. Pair of axial stacks. Left return has 2 blind windows to each floor, plastered and painted as 16-pane sashes under dummy flat brick arches. Right return has similar first floor dummy 3-light sliding sash with glazing bars. Board door to rear with ornate wrought-iron hinges. Adjoining single-storey range to rear right, in similar materials, has dentilled eaves cornice and hipped roof. Interior of farmhouse: entrance hall has open well staircase with ramped and wreathed handrail and plain balusters, moulded ceiling cornice; round-headed cupboard in rear kitchen with keyed architrave; fielded-and-beaded panel doors, window shutters and architraves throughout.
