Description
Winteringham Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th to early 19th century for the Carrington Estate. It is constructed of squared limestone with brick dressings, colourwashed, and features traces of incised pointing that mimic ashlar. The roof is covered with pantiles and has brick stacks. The farmhouse has a central entrance hall plan, consisting of two rooms wide and two rooms deep, and stands two storeys high with three symmetrical bays.
There are three stone steps leading to a two-leaf, six beaded-panel door, which is set beneath a moulded cornice and a radial fanlight in an arched panelled reveal. The original openings have 20th-century casements with projecting sills and stucco flat arches. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled, and the roof is hipped with a pair of axial stacks.
On the left side of the building, there are two blind windows on each floor, which are plastered and painted to resemble 16-pane sashes under dummy flat brick arches. The right side features a similar first-floor dummy three-light sliding sash with glazing bars. A board door at the rear has ornate wrought-iron hinges.
At the rear right, there is an adjoining single-storey range made from similar materials, which also has a dentilled eaves cornice and a hipped roof. Inside the farmhouse, the entrance hall includes an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail and plain balusters, along with a moulded ceiling cornice. There is a round-headed cupboard in the rear kitchen with a keyed architrave, and throughout the farmhouse, there are fielded-and-beaded panel doors, window shutters, and architraves.
