Description

Ferry Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the mid-18th century, with early 20th-century windows at the front. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a central entrance hall at the front, a rear kitchen wing, and an outshut in the angle. The front faces at right angles to the street and the structure is two storeys high with an attic, comprising three symmetrical bays.

The entrance features a 20th-century part-glazed door with a four-pane overlight set beneath a segmental brick arch. This is flanked by three-light casement windows, also under segmental brick arches, with moulded 19th- to 20th-century brick cills. The first floor has similar windows and a central blind panel, with an oval attic window above that has cross glazing bars and a brick surround. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled, and the roof is hipped. There are end stacks, with the right stack rendered and original, while the left is a late 19th- to 20th-century rebuild.

The left side of the building, which faces the street, features a moulded plinth on the right section, two 20th-century ground floor casements, a 19th-century four-pane sliding sash window on the first floor under a segmental arch, a 12-pane sliding sash in the attic, and a brick-coped gable on the outshut. The rear wing has a stone-coped gable. Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase at the rear with a Chinese Chippendale balustrade and panelled window shutters.
