Description
The war memorial in Winteringham was built around 1920 and later amended around 1947. It was erected by the villagers to honor local men who served in the wars. The memorial features rough-faced granite set on a concrete base. The large rectangular concrete base has a small granite block on the front, inscribed with "1939-1945, William Burkill, Frederick J Cox, Bernard Hunsley. They gave their lives that we may live." Above this is a single granite step topped with a base rock that reads: "This memorial was erected by public subscription in honoured memory of the undermentioned men from this parish who fell in the Great War A.D. 1914-1919." The names listed include Frank Brown, George Burkill, Reginald John Dodds, William Earl, Elias William Field, Albert Green, Joseph Hurbert Green, Charles Howden, Frederick Kirkby, Charles Albert Ogg, and John Robinson.
