Description

A pair of houses located at 1 and 3 Village Road, Kingston upon Hull, dating to circa 1912 and designed by Runton & Barry for the Garden Village (Hull) Ltd. The houses are constructed of brick with roughcast rendering, featuring plain tile roofs and prominent stacks. They are two storeys high and have four bays. Centrally, there are two gabled projections, each containing a canted two-storey wooden bay window. Flanking these are narrower entrance bays, each featuring a round-arched door and a window above. A similar canted bay window is present on the left return, again two storeys high, and is flanked by irregularly placed glazing bar casements. A catslide roof extends to the rear. This building is one of several designed by Runton and Barry for the second phase of the Garden Village and has a distinctive design intended to mark the entrance to the development.
