Description

A pair of houses dating to 1907, designed by Runton & Barry as part of the initial phase of the Garden Village development in Kingston upon Hull. Constructed from brick with pebbledashed sections, the houses have plain tile roofs and external side wall, ridge, and rear wall stacks. They are two storeys high with a six-window front. The windows are wooden casements with leaded glazing. The central two bays feature two three-light windows on each floor, the upper windows being smaller. A segment-headed wooden arch creates a recessed balcony above and below these windows, with wooden railings on the balcony. Flanking these bays are two-storey canted bay windows with flat roofs and six-pane windows on each floor. The returns include a projecting gabled entrance bay, featuring a two-light cross casement above and below a half-glazed door, and a flat hood supported by shaped wooden brackets. No. 8, to the right, contains a small foundation stone laid in November 1907 by Sir James Reckitt.
