Description
3 and 4 The Oval are a pair of houses built between 1907 and 1908, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. They were designed by the architectural firm Runton & Barry for the Garden Village (Hull) Ltd. The houses are constructed of brick with pebbledash and feature plain tile roofs, including two gable stacks and a single ridge stack.
The buildings are two stories tall and have a two-window range. The windows are wooden casements with leaded glazing. Prominently, there are a pair of projecting gables at the center, each with tile-hung peaks and decorative bargeboards. Each gable features a canted four-light wooden oriel window above a three-light window. On either side, there are catslide roofs with box dormers that contain two-light windows.
To the left, there is a half-glazed door, which is flanked by a small two-light window. To the right, a shallow glazed porch has a half-glazed door on the left and a three-light stained-glass window on the right. This building is part of the initial phase of the Garden Village development, designed by Runton & Barry.
