Description

A pair of houses built in 1907-08 by Runton & Barry for the Garden Village (Hull) Ltd., as part of the initial development of the Garden Village. The houses are constructed of brick, rendered and colourwashed, with plain tile roofs and four external side wall stacks and a single ridge stack. They are two storeys high, with a four-window facade. The windows are wooden casements with leaded glazing. The central part of the building features two sets of three-light windows on each floor, with the lower windows being larger and transomed. Flanking these are single gabled wings, each with a two-storey flat-roofed bay window and a catslide roof leading to a single-storey porch on the inner side. The bay windows have a five-light window on each floor, the lower one being larger and transomed. The porch has a round-arched opening with a glazed double door and overlight, and a round-headed window in the return angle. The returns of the building feature a single large cross casement window, and below that a small lean-to projection with two small windows. The building is representative of the first phase of the Garden Village’s construction.
