Description

This is a former estate office, now a house, built in 1908 by Runton & Barry for the Garden Village (Hull) Ltd. It was altered in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with a sham timber-framed first floor featuring rendered panels, ashlar dressings, and plain tile roofs topped with three coped ridge stacks. It is two storeys high and has a two-window front, with an L-shaped plan. Most of the windows are wooden-framed casements with leaded glazing. The right-hand wing features a gable with a jettied first floor supported by brackets, featuring a four-light window. Below, a canted wooden bay window with five lights. A small porch with a late 20th-century glazed door and sidelights is on the left, extending slightly to the front. To the left of the porch stands a two-storey gabled stair turret, featuring a stone mullioned cross casement. A hipped porch with corner posts, round-arched openings, and an elliptical-arched boarded door is situated to the left of the stair turret. The left return gable mirrors the right-hand gable. The rear elevation includes a projecting gable on the left, with a four-light oriel window above and a three-light stone mullioned window below. To the right of the gable is a single window, and lower down, a two-light window. The building served as the home and office of the estate manager and was one of several buildings designed by Runton & Barry for the initial phase of the Garden Village development.
