Description
67 and 69 Village Road are a pair of houses built around 1909, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. They were designed by the architectural firm Runton & Barry for the Garden Village (Hull) Ltd. The houses are constructed of brick, which is rendered and colourwashed, featuring brick dressings and hipped roofs covered with plain tiles. Each house has four side wall stacks and a single ridge stack, all of which are rendered. The corners of the buildings are accentuated with quoins.
The houses are two stories high, plus attics, and have an eight-window range. The windows consist of wooden framed casements and sashes, with glazing bar upper lights. The left house, No.67, has been reglazed with 20th-century top-hung casements. The central section has six windows, and above it are two hipped dormers, each with two lights. Below, there are four windows flanked by single doors that have brick surrounds and flat hoods. At each end, there is a canted two-storey flat-roofed bay window featuring a four-light mullioned casement on both floors. Each return also has a hipped dormer with two lights. This building is part of the second phase of the Garden Village designed by Runton & Barry starting in 1907 and is included for its group value.
