Description

The building at 12 Bowlalley Lane is a house, later converted into offices, dating from around 1730. It was partly refaced in the early 19th century and restored with the addition of attic windows around 1980. The construction is primarily brick, with a rusticated stucco finish to the ground floor, a rendered left gable, and a rear wing. The roof is slate and concrete tile, featuring two gable and two side wall stacks, one of the side wall stacks being cruciform.

The front of the building has a plinth, a sill band at ground floor level, and a cornice. There are chamfered brick eaves and a renewed wooden gutter. The facade is arranged with two storeys plus an attic, and a five-window range. The windows are 12-pane sashes, with five 20th-century box dormers above, also featuring 9-pane sashes. The ground floor has four plain sashes, arranged in pairs, and a recessed 8-panel door with two glazed panels to the right. Each ground floor window opening has a faceted keystone. The left gable has first-floor and eaves bands.

At the rear, an angled 12-pane casement window is set within a corner. To the left of this is a 12-pane sash window, with the lower light reglazed. Beyond that is an angled yard wall with coping. A beaded 6-panel door with an overlight is positioned to the right, alongside a segment-headed board door to its left. A two-storey stair tower is located at the rear, featuring a renewed round-headed stair light and a 2-light casement above.

The interior is reported to contain a high-quality oak staircase with carved and twisted balusters.
