Description
The County Buildings are an office building dating from 1850, designed by J Brown. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, and has a roof that is not visible. Features include a plinth, a band marking the first floor, a sill band on the second floor, a prominent cornice decorated with modillions, and a single ridge stack. The building is two storeys high, with a basement, and has a four-window front. The upper windows are cross casements with two lights, each set within a moulded round-arched surround, bracketed sills, and scroll keystones featuring swags. Below these, in the centre of the building, are two similar windows. Segment-headed openings provide access to the basement. A doorway on the left has a matching surround and leads to recessed half-glazed double doors with round-headed panels and a plain fanlight. A similar doorway on the right leads to a double door with moulded panelling and a divided fanlight.
