Description

No. 7 Land of Green Ginger is an office building constructed around 1885, designed in the Renaissance Revival style. It is built of brick with ashlar and moulded brick dressings, topped with a steep pitched plain tile roof that features a large panelled and coped ridge stack. The building has a ground-floor sill band, a moulded cornice at the ground floor, and dentillated coved eaves.

It stands two storeys high, plus a basement and attics, with a six-window range. Most windows are wooden framed cross casements, and the first-floor windows have fielded panels above them. The central section features two casements separated by canted pilasters that extend into a large pedimented dormer at the eaves, adorned with strapwork ornament and flanked by two smaller casements. To the left, there are two casements, and to the right, a single casement.

The attic includes smaller pedimented wooden dormers on either side, each with two-light glazing bar casements, complementing the central dormer. The ground floor has five casements, while the basement has four segment-headed openings with hoodmoulds, the third of which is larger and has matchboard double doors. To the right, there is a slightly projecting entrance bay.

On the first floor, a round window with a moulded surround and glazing bars is flanked by plain pilasters. Below this, a brick doorcase features pilasters on reeded pedestals and a segmental pediment with strapwork and a ball finial. The flat-headed doorway has a moulded surround leading to a wrought-iron traceried fanlight.
