Description

A pair of semi-detached houses, later used as a club and flats, were built around 1840 and remodelled in the late 20th century. They are connected by a former stable block. The houses are constructed of brick, with the left-hand house and the link building painted. They have hipped slate and artificial slate roofs, and a slate mansard roof to the link building. The buildings feature a plinth, a ground floor sill band, wooden modillion eaves and gutters. The two-storey fronts have a seven-window range. Number 102, on the left, has three top-hung casements at sill band level. Below, there is a wooden Doric portico with frieze and cornice, and a four-panel door with an overlight. On either side of the door is a top-hung casement. The central linking section has a segment-headed dormer window and, below, a pair of segment-headed panelled carriage doors. Number 103, on the right, has a side wall stack. It features three plain sash windows, the central one slightly smaller, with a central pilastered wooden doorcase containing a four-panel door and overlight. On either side of the door are plain sashes. The buildings are valued for their date, representing good examples of 1840s semi-detached houses in Kingston upon Hull, and for their architectural interest, retaining classical proportions and classical detailing such as the modillion eaves, the wooden Doric portico with frieze and cornice to number 102, and the pilastered wooden doorcase to number 103.
