Description

This is a house designed by Benjamin Musgrave of Hull and built in 1853. It has been altered in the late 20th century and is now used as flats. The house is constructed of brick with a rendered basement, ashlar dressings, and a slate roof, featuring two gable stacks. It has a plinth band and rebated eaves. The main facade has two storeys plus a basement and attic. It consists of a three-window range of plain sash windows with moulded surrounds. At ground floor level, to the left, are two plain sashes with moulded eared and shouldered surrounds, and to the right, steps lead to a recessed porch with a segmental head. The porch has two Doric columns in antis, a frieze, and a cornice. There is a half-glazed margin stile door with a small window above. A cast-iron balustrade with Gothic tracery is present. The left return of the building features a renewed round-headed stair window with a 20th-century door and steps below. From 1874 to 1889, the house was the home of Christopher Pickering, a trawler fleet owner and philanthropist.
