Description
Triton Cottage and the adjoining barn are located on the north side of Sledmere Main Street. This property dates from the early 18th century and features later additions and alterations, including 19th-century ranges to the right that are of no special interest. The building is constructed from magnesian limestone, with narrow red brick and engineering brick, topped with a pantile roof. It has a double-range plan, with the house consisting of two storeys and three bays, along with a two-storey, single-bay range to the left.
The house has a brick plinth and brick and stone quoins. The central entrance features a part-glazed door set under an elliptical arch. On the ground floor, there are 16-pane sash windows. A two-course band runs along the first floor, where the outer bays have 12-pane, unequally hung sashes, and the center has a 9-pane, unequally hung sash, all under elliptical arches. The eaves are cogged. To the left, the barn has a first-floor pitching door under an elliptical arch, with a hipped roof to the left. The right side features ashlar kneelers and copings, along with ridge and end stacks. Inside, the property has chamfered beams in some ceilings.
