Description

The walled garden to Sledmere House is likely from the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring ashlar and moulded tile copings. The garden is octagonal in shape, with a central dividing wall. The wall on the west side extends about 20 metres and curves to the west.

The entrance on the west side has an elliptical arch with double board doors set between pilaster strips, which have stepped ashlar caps and ball finials, along with ashlar copings on the parapet. There are three additional pedestrian entrances on the south and north sides, two of which have board doors, all under cambered arches. The opening in the central wall features an elliptical arch with ashlar imposts, which is stepped above the wall's height and has ashlar copings and vases on the piers. The walls are approximately 3 metres high, with sections of the outer walls breaking forward every 3 metres and stepping at the front. The outer walls mainly have moulded tile copings, while the inner wall has ashlar copings. The south-facing walls include heating ducts.
