Description

The walled garden, located approximately 100 meters north-east of Heydon Hall, dates from the 18th century and later. It features red brick perimeter walls topped with double-chamfered coping and shallow pilaster-buttresses. Each wall has a central entrance. The north wall includes door and window openings leading to a lean-to, with flat gauged arches and two 2-light casements that have glazing bars. In the north-west corner, there is a wide segmental-headed opening with a glazed door and sidelights, also with glazing bars. The central doorway in the north wall has a 6-panelled door set in a square-headed frame, topped by a segmental relieving arch. A later pediment is positioned at the top of the wall, supported by a short pilaster, and features a square base for a finial. The east wall has a pair of central gates, while the south and west walls have doorways with cambered arches. At the center of the garden, there is a vase-shaped limestone pedestal topped with a large ball-finial, which has been re-used.
