Description

The Earle Arms is a public house that dates back to the 18th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a red brick construction with a whitewashed front elevation and pantiled roofs. The building is two storeys high and has a six-bay facade facing the street. The windows are ovolo-moulded casements with 2, 3, and 4 lights, all with glazing bars. Notably, two of the first-floor casements still have leaded glazing.

The second and fourth bays of the facade are slightly advanced and topped with stepped gables supported by moulded eaves corbels. The doorways have moulded elliptical arches, and the first floor has cross-casements. The right-hand bays feature segmental-headed openings, with a doorway located between window openings that contains a part-glazed six-panel door, framed by a simple surround with reeded pilasters.

The building has parapeted and coped gables on the north and south sides, with internal stacks that have twin diagonally-set square shafts. There is also an axial stack opposite the entrance bay, which has three diagonally-set shafts. The north gable shows tumbling-in to the parapet. At the north end, there is a raking screen wall leading to the garden, which includes an elliptical arched doorway that matches those in the entrance bays. There are later extensions on the west side of the building.
