Description

The walled garden at Hillside House, dating from the early to mid-19th century, features a large rectangular plan and is built into the rising slope to the north of the house. The outer walls are constructed of random rubble with droved quoins, while the inner walls to the north, east, and west are made of brick in a running bond. The south elevation has a low wall with rounded coping stones, and the higher walls to the north, east, and west have missing wall heads, sweeping towards the northwest and northeast corners.

On the north elevation, there are two evenly placed segmentally arched doors, which have ashlar surrounds with voussoirs, droved rybats, and raised margins. At the far right of the west elevation, there are remains of a rectangular ashlar entrance pier. A modern wide entrance has been inserted into the right corner of the south elevation. Additionally, there is a low squat door at the left corner of the east elevation, featuring ashlar margins on the outer wall and a thick rectangular margin to the right.
