Description
The Corn Mill is a watermill located on Main Street in Stamford Bridge. It dates from the early 19th century, with a late 18th-century gabled range at the back. The building is constructed of red-brown brick with ashlar and has pantiled roofs. The main section is five storeys tall with a basement and consists of seven bays. There is a two-storey, two-bay projecting wing at the front, which covers the central three bays. The basement features round-headed arches for sluices in bays one, two, six, and seven.
The ground floor has 20th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars under square heads, while similar windows under segmental brick arches are found on the upper floors. The projecting wing has the same style of windows on the ground floor, along with large 20th-century casements with glazing bars on all three sides of the first floor. The roofs are hipped. The earlier range at the back has a steeply pitched roof with raised coped gables supported by shaped kneelers. There are 20th-century extensions to the rear and sides that are not considered of special interest.
