Description

STAMFORD BRIDGE CHURCH ROAD 7155 (west side) 7/50 Railway Station and platforms - II

Railway station. c1847 by G T Andrews for York and North Midland Railway Company. Red-grey brick with stone dressings and slate roof, cast iron. Main elevation of 2 storeys, 3 bays, with single bay outshut to right and rear wing. Plinth. Tetrastyle portico of Tuscan pilasters with entablature and blocking course to centre bay. Behind this are two 4-panel doors with overlights with glazing bars under slightly cambered gauged-brick heads flanked to right and to left by sashes with glazing bars under slightly cambered gauged brick arches in oblong recesses with similar heads. Moulded sill band to 3 first-floor sashes with glazing bars all under slightly cambered gauged brick heads. Oversailing eaves, rear wall stacks. Outshut to right has sash with glazing bars and sill under slightly cambered gauged brick arch. Left elevation has canted bay to ground floor, overlooking platform, with sashes with glazing bars and oversailing bracketed eaves. Beyond this is a verandah of 4 bays, supported on thin cylindrical cast-iron columns, to the rear wing. Brick revetting walls with stone cappings to platforms.
